THE RECORD PRODUCERS - TONY VISCONTI
|
A COLLECTION OF LEGENDARY PRODUCER TONY VISCONTI'S FINEST WORK - Released July 30 2007.
|
Tony Visconti is one of the most important and influential music producers of the last 40 years. Born in Brooklyn in 1944 he developed an early passion for music and after various attempts to make it as an artist he moved to the UK where there were "arcane studio secrets know only to the British." He was soon to be one of the architects of the Glam Rock revolution working with Marc Bolan and T Rex but it is perhaps his work with David Bowie which truly established Visconti as one of the worlds most in demand Record Producers. In producing classics such as Heroes and Low he developed a relationship which exists to this day with production credits on Bowie's most recent records. Along the way he has worked with acts such as Sparks, Wings, The Moody Blues, Thin Lizzy, The Boom Town Rats, Morrissey along with more contemporary bands such as Mercury Rev and The Seahorses.
This collection of 17 tracks from the Visconti archives is a fitting tribute to the scale and scope of his work. The album includes gems such as the French version of Bowie's "Héros" (never before released on CD in the UK), the original Mercury single of the Bowie track "The Prettiest Star", the Bowie/Bolan/Visconti written & recorded "Dib Cochran" track "Oh Baby, the rare Surprise Sisters version of the Beatles track "Got To Get You Into My Life" plus T Rex glam stompers Telegram Sam and Metal Guru along with more recent works such as the Morrissey track "You Have Killed Me" and the Visconti arranged Mercury Rev track "Chains".
Put together with the full cooperation of Visconti the album will be packaged in hard card digi pack with 20 page booklet including rare archive photos of many of the featured artists along with essays and track by track notes written by Visconti expert Neil Myners.
Coming off the back of the recent BBC Radio 2 documentary on Visconti as part of "The Record Producers" series (soon to be re-run in extended form on BBC 6 Music) and following the release of his Autobiography, Visconti's profile is at a recent all time high, evidenced by his May '07 interview on the Jools Holland show.
